Pavement Ants

 Pavement ants are a brown to light brown with black appendages lighter than rest of the body and have parallel lines on the head and thorax.

Pharaoh Ants

Pharaoh ants have a light yellow body with black and red markings on the abdomen.

Carpenter Ants

A carpenter ants color varies from black (being the most common), brown, red and light brown depending on the species. 

American Cockroach

American Cockroaches have light reddish-brown wings, wing size can be as large as the body although males may grow their wings even larger

Brown-Banded Cockroach

 Brown-band cockroaches are as they sound, with 2 brown bands running around their wings and abdomen. 

German Cockroach

German Cockroaches are light-brown in color and have 2 stripes on their pronotum. Although these roaches have wings they can’t fly.

Oriental Cockroach

Oriental cockroaches appear dark brown and can sometimes appear as black due to their darkness.

Deer Mice

Being one of the most common mice issues found in the GTA these species have several other related cousins that can be confused for deer mice.

Carpet beetles have a brownish tan color to them but can be covered in scales that are black, brown or white.

These beetles are a reddish brown color.

Cluster Flies

Cluster flies look similar to house flies however they are dark gray in color with golden hairs and overlapping wings. 

Fruit Flies

Fruit flies have a tan or brownish color to them with dark eyes sometimes even red.

House Flies

House flies have a grayish black look to them with dark stripes that run down to the thorax.

Cloth Moths

Cloth moth larvae are a white color and a full grown adult is a cream color with a little bit of red hair on the top of their head.

Mediterranean Flour Moths

These moths have a brownish black body with the front part of their wings a pale gray and the back a cream color.

Indian Meal Moth

Indian meal moths have 2 distinguished colors with the base of their body being a pale gray with reddish brown ends and the top of their body being a cream, light brown color. The larvae are a brownish white color with brown heads.

These spiders can be a brown to a gray color and have various markings.

Ticks are usually misidentified as insects rather they are arthropods due to the fact that they only 

Bedburgs

Bed bugs can look a lot like an apple seed due to their oval body shape and rusty brown color.

Silver fish

They are gray in color almost silver and look like a carrot in shape with long antennae. 

Centipedes

Centipedes color can vary on the species but the most common are a brownish or orange-brown color.

Fleas can be found on mammals such as raccoons, possums, dogs, cats and other common mammals found in residential areas.

Sowbugs/ Pillbugs

These bugs are a gray color. Pill bugs appear to have a very similar shape to a medicine pill 

Box Elder Bugs

Box elder bugs range from a gray to black color with red crisscrossing stripes on the wings. 

Earwigs

These common outdoor insects are best known by their pincers that they have on the back of their abdomen. 

Wasps

If a wasp nest is around your home be careful not to mistake them for bees as they may have a similar appearance a closer look will let you know the difference.
