SIZE: Centipedes can measure to grow up to 2 inches in length.
DESCRIPTION: Centipedes color can vary on the species but the most common are a brownish or orange-brown color.
BEHAVIOR: Centipedes are predatorial insects that prey on other insects which makes them in a sense a natural pest control. Although they can be a scary sight for some, centipedes mainly come out at night as they are seeking for shelter during the day. Centipedes prefer moist conditions and once it gets hot and dry they will burrow themselves inside of soil. Centipedes are not territorial however if they do see another centipede they may get very aggressive sometimes even eating the other insect. When threated they will protect themselves by running or biting some even whip their bodies and spread their hind legs to warn off danger while others may release a bad smell to scare off danger.
HABITATS: Centipedes prefer moist conditions outdoors and within homes. Outdoors these insects can be found living in mulch, soil, cracks and crevices and other damp areas. Indoors these insects can be found in the basement living in cracks, crevices and in the baseboards. They can also be seen wandering on walls in crawl spaces, garages and sometime in rooms within the house.
